Dorothy Sanders was born 4 March 1932 in London.
Dorothy was inspired to set up her own Slimming Club Business and opened her first club on 25 June 1970 at Frimleys. This was a great success and culminated in over 70 clubs through the south east.
The Purdew partnership has since become the largest destination spa operator and owner in the world employing over 2000 employees
In November 2004 the Champneys Collection was launched. With the combined expertise of Champneys premier therapists, Aromatherapists and Chemists this range now encompasses over 100 products including a Men’s Range, Mother to Be Range, Skincare Collection, Bath and Body Collection and Rose Collection. Many other products are due to be added to this extensive range in the coming year. These products are available in Sainsbury’s supermarkets and also the Champneys resorts.
Dorothy Purdew has always been committed to raising money and instigating fund raising ie Cystic Fibrosis, Princes Trust, and Variety Club. In 2004 £150,000 was raised for Breast Cancer Care. Tommy’s Children Charity and the Disability Foundation were supported in 2006 raising a combined sum of £100,000. Champneys has recently been successful in applying for charitable status to enable them to support more local charities as well as the larger more well known names.
She continues to play a pivotal role in the progression and development of the group and she is the country’s most successful businesswoman in the spa industry.
Maria Mason is the owner of Beauty Time in Bristol. Maria established the Beauty Time brand 18 years ago and has developed it from a mobile therapist business into the successful salon that has just won the prestigious accolade of Beauty Salon of the Year (four rooms or more) at the Professional Beauty Awards 2009.
Maria, who continues to practice beauty therapy, takes a hands-on approach to running her business and leading her team.
Maria is a respected industry figure, judging at national awards, regularly contributing to trade magazines and working with suppliers at trade shows demonstrating new treatments; she also lectures to beauty students at local colleges.
Katie Light is Senior Sales & Business Development Manager for leading spa brand Aromatherapy Associates. In early 2001, Katie joined the hugely passionate and experienced team at Aromatherapy Associates and, prior to the opening of a company regional office in Hong Kong, worked to develop spa businesses throughout south-east Asia. Today, with experience in spa, therapy, product development and retailing, Katie uses her skills and enthusiasm to build successful relationships with the very best spas in the UK and
As well as being a qualified aromatherapist and trainer for Aromatherapy Associates, Katie frequently lends her expert advice at special events and conferences on the benefits of essential oils in massage, spa treatments and skincare, and of using aromatherapy products at home to improve one’s general state of health and wellbeing.
Andrea Ayling has extensive agency and in-house PR and marketing experience specialising in the professional and consumer beauty industries.
Andrea started her career at one of the UK’s leading consumer PR agencies before moving to an in-house role at R Robson Ltd (Guinot UK). At R Robson, Andrea was responsible for implementing Guinot’s PR, marketing and advertising in the UK.
After leaving R Robson to start a family, Andrea established Acuity Communications, a PR and marketing service dedicated to the professional beauty industry.
With over 30 years working in the beauty industry, including 15 years as Beauty Director for Regis, overseeing the operations of 152 sites in the UK,Switzerland, France and South Africa, Frances Hayter has a vast operational knowledge within the beauty industry.
Frances joined Serve Health and Beauty in 2000, becoming one of the original founders of Re-aqua prior to its involvement and re-branding into Dove Spa, before more recently working with Unilever to develop and launch the Dove Spa professional skincare product and salon concept. Frances was the operations director for 8 years growing the business and moving re-aqua across to Dove Spa trading outlets
In her role as brand development director Frances is primarily responsible for developing Dove Spa in new markets and creating a stronger awareness of the brand both in the UK and internationally.
Kevin is the Chief Executive of SpaFinder Europe, Middle East & Africa (www.spafindereurope.com), the world’s largest spa marketing and media company, connecting a global network of spas to millions of active spa consumers.
Like many in the spa industry, Kevin has arrived via an unexpected route – the automotive industry. Kevin launched the EMEA division of SpaFinder in 2006, joining forces with former colleague and now President and CEO of SpaFinder Inc., Pete Ellis, to bring SpaFinder’s unique marketing platform to the global spa market.
Prior to SpaFinder, Kevin was the Director of Daimler Chrysler UK’s luxury car brand division, where he oversaw business operations for the ultra-luxurious Maybach and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
His background in e-commerce activities comes from being the CEO of the UK division of the online car buying website, Autobytel (founded by Pete Ellis), a subsidiary of Inchcape plc where Turnbull was also Global Group Director responsible for e-Commerce.
Daniel is a visionary in the world of sonic branding. For the last 14 years he has helped brands as diverse as Credit Suisse and Crest Toothbrushes to achieve excellence in customer experience and brand identity through sound.
His book An Introduction to Sonic Branding is a standard text and through his company, Cutting Edge Commercial, he offers music and sound design consultancy services alongside world leading composition for film and television.

Prior to Wahanda, Lopo was the Managing Director of European Lifestyle at lastminute.com since 2004. Here, he was responsible for lifestyle business across Europe, encompassing all non-travel products such as entertainment tickets, restaurants, gifts and spas.
Salim is the Chief Operating Officer and co-Founder of Wahanda (www.wahanda.com), a health, beauty and wellness community and marketplace. Wahanda connects consumers, wellness businesses and professionals across the globe through content (such as information on spas, salons, clinics, treatments and therapists), professional and user generated reviews, and ultimately through transactions, bookings and commerce.
Prior to Wahanda, Salim spent four years as the European Director for Yahoo! Search. Salim’s primary responsibilities included product strategy, monetisation, distribution and quality for Web, Multimedia and Social Search.
